WHAT IS “WEEZY BOTTOM”?
With the popularity of the band Weezy Bottom spreading like wildfire, one question is constantly being asked – “What IS ‘Weezy Bottom’ – what does it mean”? Is it a reference to Louise Jefferson’s buttocks? Is it a physical condition that causes strange noises to emanate from one’s rear end? Is it a new brand of adult diapers? Now, the truth is finally revealed; Weezy Bottom is a small, remote swamp town in Mississippi that has produced more legendary Blues musicians than any other single spot in the world; so remote that it’s not even on the map. It’s a place where even the alligators play the blues – a place so dismal and depressing that that the Blues is the only style of music that could possibly come out of such a place. The list of renowned Blues artists that hail from Weezy Bottom, Mississippi includes Blind Johnny Gumbo, Blind Melon Hambone, Blind Melon Chittlin’, Hound Dog Taylor, Hound Dog Watson, Rufus P. Hambone, Bipolar Bobby Johnson, Skunky Joe Potato Sack, and Stankfoot Simmons, just to name a few. The members of the multi-aluminum album-selling band Weezy Bottom are actually all originally from the Kentucky-Tennessee area, but prior to embarking on their present musical juggernaut, they all traveled to Weezy Bottom, Mississippi and holed up in a shotgun shack for six long months writing & playing their haunting melodies, eating raw crawfish, drinking white lightnin’, smoking swamp vines, and fighting off mosquitoes the size of small dogs. The resulting transformation is nothing short of miraculous. If you’re a fan of Hard Rockin’ Blues, then you’ll love Weezy Bottom.
